This AIA Approved Continuing Education program reviews the stack effect, the IBC/CBC requirement for smoke and fire containment generally, and in particular, those of Section 3006 Elevator Lobbies and Hoistway Opening Protection and Section 403 Atriums. With advancements in high-temperature materials, code compliance can be accomplished in innovative ways. Video examples of vertical, horizontal, and perimeter curtains in operation will be shown.
Biography:
Dave Bauer earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1986, then moved to Atlanta where he worked for several nationally prominent firms such as Greenberg Farrow and Niles Bolton Associates. In that time, he amassed a broad spectrum of experience most prominently in healthcare, residential, office and retail, and even spent time in Afghanistan master planning military bases. After more than twenty-five years of practice in a variety of jurisdictions throughout the US and abroad, Mr. Bauer joined Smoke Guard in 2012 as Regional Manager for the Southeastern United States, a region which has since expanded to range from Hudson Bay to the Caribbean. His expertise in fire and smoke protection has helped guide countless architects into more successful, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.
