Schedule

8:30AM: Meet at the corner of 7th Street and S. Figueroa Street

9:00AM: Tour Starts (if your not there by this time, you'll be left behind)

12:00PM: Tour Ends

12:00PM - 1:30PM Lunch at Plan Check Kitchen + Bar (You pay for this out of you pocket).

PLEASE PARK ON LEVEL P4 OR P5.  PARKING VALIDATION WILL BE PROVIDED.  PLEASE MEET US AT THE CORNER OF 7TH STREET AND S. FIGUERO STREET BY 9AM SHARP OR YOU'LL BE LEFT BEHIND.

Lunch is optional (at your cost) at Plan Check Kitchen + Bar after the tour (12pm-1:1:30pm).

Biographies

Mark Chase

Los Angeles Fire Department

Mark has been a member of the Los Angeles Fire Department for over 28 years.  He has been assigned to Fire Prevention Bureau, Fire Development Services Section for the last 17 years as a Fire Inspector II (new construction inspector).  In his role, he is responsible for field inspections of various life safety systems, and he is also involved early on in project design with architects and design engineers, such as the Wilshire Grand project.  Mark served City as Firefighter/Paramedic prior to being promoted to Fire Inspector.  He has an A.S. Degree Fire Science, various certifications: CSFM Fire Prevention Officer III, Building Plans Examiner to name a few.

  

Nathan B. Wittasek, PE, CFEI, LEED AP, CASp

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc.

Nate has over twenty years of experience working in the fire protection and regulatory arenas.  He is a Principal and Vice President at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc.  He brings a practical approach to the fire protection engineering field that reflects his diverse training and experience in academia, codes consulting for both new and existing facilities, performance-based fire protection engineering, accessibility, and the fire service.  His experience includes failure analysis, fire engineering, systems design and building code consulting for commercial and infrastructure projects in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  Nate has specialized in fire life safety systems and approaches that are used in assembly venues, tall buildings, cultural heritage facilities, and historic structures.  He was responsible for preparing the Rational Analysis for the Wilshire Grand project.  He is a registered fire protection engineer in California and Nevada.


Ozzie Mercado, LA City Deputy Building Inspector, NICET III

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc.

Ozzie has 18 plus years of experience working in the fire protection and regulatory arenas on national and international projects.   His experience includes design preparation for fire alarm, fire protection, special hazard, and smoke control systems, code consultant for both new and existing facilities, performance-base design strategies and project administration.  He was the Deputy Building Inspector for the Smoke Control System at the Wilshire Grand Project.  He holds a certificate from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies and is certified as Level III in Fire Alarm Systems and is also a Licensed Deputy Building Inspector for the City of Los Angeles in Smoke Control Systems.  He is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and sits on the Board as Co-Vice President in the Southern California Chapter.
