Description:
Top-Load Automatic Storage and Retrieval System (TL-ASRS) create new challenges for traditional fire protection systems and fire incident response tactics due to the extremely dense combustible storage without aisle spaces or other access to the storage area. While full-scale fire testing shows ceiling-level sprinkler protection can be effective at suppressing the initial fire, additional manual fire intervention efforts are necessary to reach deep seated fires. This presentation will review the current state of large-scale fire testing as well as the recommendations now offered that couple automatic and manual fire-fighting strategies to achieve final extinguishment.
